Thanet - Our First Offshore Substation

Our first Vattenfall Project

Your first offshore wind project is always going to be one to remember, with a maximum installed capacity of 300MW Thanet was the first offshore wind project for Sembmarine SLP

At the time of commissioning, Thanet was the worlds largest wind farm. But how did we complete this full EPC contract while guiding our client towards success?

experience

Using the past to ensure the future

Let’s rewind to 2008. With a contract for design, procurement and construction there was a lot to consider. But we didn’t let the pressure phase us, in fact, this was the perfect opportunity to show what we’re made of.

Calling upon our years of experience in designing and building offshore structures as well as an understanding of how to sail to an offshore location, the project was completed in 2010 to a high standard.

on time, on budget

Delivering a project on time and on budget to meet the needs of 200,000 households

You wouldn’t think this was the first offshore wind project we’d undertaken. Thanet has the power to meet the annual demands of 200,000 households.

One hundred 3MW wind turbines are currently connected to the substation, which is approximately 12km from Foreness Point in Kent at a 25m water depth.

Considering this was a first offshore wind project for Sembmarine SLP, we couldn’t have been more pleased with the results, and our team’s initiative to use their strengths to deliver this project safely, on time, and on-budget. Not only this, but Thanet also paved the way for our future offshore wind projects – going from strength to strength every single time.
