Sembmarine SLP Ltd staff raise money for local charity
– 21st December 2015
Late in 2015 a group of seven office staff decided to try and lose some weight in the run up to Christmas. As an incentive to do well they agreed that if anyone gained weight they would pay a fine of £1 for every 1lb gained!
Unfortunately the incentive didn’t work as well as they hoped with £75 being put into the fund. In deciding what to do with the money one of the group members noticed that a local charity, the Lions Club of Beccles and District (established for over 40 years), whose aim is to raise funds to help the less fortunate within the community and further afield, were asking for donations of toys to give to underprivileged families at Christmas.
Kindly the group members agreed to up the fund to £100 and bought lots of toys suitable for girls and boys of various ages.
Alison Cooper, a member of the group, said: “We didn’t lose a lot of weight but it was a real pleasure to be able to help a local charity and buy gifts for children who might not have much at Christmas time.”
Dermot Wesley-Smith, Lions Club Community Services Chairman, said: “I would like to thank SLP for their wonderful donation and for helping us in our aim to help those less fortunate than ourselves. The children’s Centre in Beccles are over the moon with the gifts, they are just right for helping some of the poorest families in the area.”
